When I started “Rachel the Riveter”, I imagined a central source for all things food. Starting with basics, moving to advanced and creative recipes. I wanted to have healthy recipes for people like me who want to eat healthy and rich recipes for the times we all need to indulge in a treat. But life has not gone according to plan. Does it ever?
Since my mother has moved in with us, my life has changed more than I expected it would. I don’t have time to take highly contrived food photos. Our new house doesn’t have room for me to bring out the huge amount of equipment it takes to take one picture. Without the photos, I haven’t posted a ton of recipes I have developed. It has left me depressed and I have not been able to post more than one recipe in 3 months.
Those photos are dishonest. Your food is not going to look like the food photos you see on most blogs unless you too have eye droppers to carefully place moisture, tweezers to carefully place peas just ‘so’ and a clothing steamer to insert steam at the last second to make cold food look hot. Not to mention the $900 camera and the carefully placed lights.
But I have a lot to share with you. Recipes, diet tips, exercise tips, parenting stories, inspirational stories of overcoming the difficult and I want to share them with you. I want to celebrate the successes of my family with you and mourn the losses. There will be recipes, but the photos will be real, cuz I’m real. There will be lots of failures, but with lessons, we can all learn from.
I hope you’ll stay with me. I hope you’ll learn something. I hope I can help you through something hard. And I hope you’ll still love the recipes I post. I may throw some stock photos in there – you’ll be able to tell because I’ll put captions letting you know. I want the blog to look good – but I am not going to NOT post because of photos.
